In a 2004, pedometer researcher Dr. Catrine Tudor-Locke published a study in “Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise”, revealing that men took an average of 7192 steps per day and women took an average of 5210 step per day. Multiply those steps by 365 days a year and a lifetime of years and your feet definitely take a beating!
Isn’t it time to thank them for all that they do for you?
I decided to thank my feet two weeks ago by getting a pedicure at Supernails. Relaxing into one of the big pedicure chairs at Supernails, my feet were dipped into warm pulsating water. It felt wonderful!
If that wasn’t heaven enough, the pedicure chairs have a massage unit in the back of the seat that can be adjusted, so during the foot bath, I was able to enjoy full body pampering.
I could have stopped right there and just enjoyed sitting in the massage chair with warm water swirling over my feet, but pedicures include much more. A good pedicure will provide health benefits to your feet as well improve their appearance.
During a pedicure, rough skin is removed by a pumice stone and the feet and lower legs are massaged and moisturized with specialized creams that hydrate the skin. The removal of rough and dead skin not only creates cosmetically more attractive feet, but also healthier feet. Painful feet can result from standing on calluses and uneven areas all day.
Next: the nails. My nails were thoroughly cleaned, buffed, trimmed and shaped. It was the sort of procedure that I have tried to do at home, but not nearly as well as Supernails does it! For people with ingrown toenails or other nail challenges, pedicures provide a professional environment for safe nail care.
The final step was nail polish. I decided on a light color and after layering polish, my toes were fan dried. Two weeks later, my pedicure still looks fresh and new. I had a big event to attend that same weekend and my feet looked terrific in summer sandals.
This visit to Supernails was my first-ever pedicure, and it won’t be my last. I am now a bona fide fan. I enjoyed the treatment and plan to continue to get pedicures throughout the winter as therapeutic pedicures are not just for sandal weather.
Pedicures are appropriate for men, also. We can all benefit from proper foot care. Our feet do a lot for us. A pedicure is a great way to return the favor.
