Lola’s Market
We are delighted to announce that Lola’s Market is coming to The Plaza North.
Lola’s Market is one of Sonoma County’s leading Hispanic retailers. Owner David Ortega, who named the company for family matriarch Lola Ortega, first entered the grocery business when he opened a small market and taqueria with his mother in 1992.
Still family owned and managed, Lola’s is now a Sonoma County institution with three grocery stores located in Santa Rosa and Healdsburg. The Plaza North will be store number four.
On our first visit to Lola’s in 2010, we were very impressed by the quality and the variety of both Mexican and American grocery items available at consumer friendly prices.
Lola’s purchases produce locally whenever possible and tomatillos, mangoes, avocados, and papayas are just a sampling of what they offer on a daily basis. Lola’s carries the dried chilies and spices that are indispensable for authentic Mexican cooking, and they stock seasonal and holiday products like sugar cane, guayabas, and tejocote. In addition to these specialty items, Lola’s also stocks the wide variety of day to day produce that characterizes a traditional scale grocery store
Lola’s beef is hand selected, trimmed to their exacting specifications and then tender verified. Lola’s also offers a great selection of fresh chicken, pork, and specialty cuts along with a terrific variety of seafood. The Lola’s meat and fish department is well-known for high quality products and has attracted a loyal following.
The bakery at Lola’s is legendary and brings customers from all over the Bay Area and beyond. The ovens run 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. Lola’s specializes in authentic hand-crafted sweet breads. Modeled after a typical Pueblo bakery, the bakers use traditional methods and pure ingredients to create sweet breads and pastries of exceptional quality and character. Lola’s Market is one of the few remaining “scratch bakeries”, where all the ingredients are weighed out, blended, and baked on the premises. Conchas and bolillos are just a couple of the many favorites in the bakery. Lola’s Tres Leches (three milks) cake is the best in the Bay Area and due to high demand, pre-ordering is highly recommended. Lola’s also makes many specialties for various occasions like Pan De Muertos (day of the dead bread), Rosca De Reyes (Three Kings bread), wedding and quinceñeara cakes.
Lola’s carries traditional Mexican and American grocery items and health and beauty products. The cafeteria at Lola’s serves breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week and food can be eaten in or taken out. Lola’s is available for catering.
Lola’s promises to bring new cuisine and new shopping options to Petaluma. Currently under construction, Lola’s will be located at 241 N. McDowell Blvd (between Kmart and Trader Joe’s)
